    We start with proven performance fabric from adidas and Champion — breathable, moisture-wicking, and made to move with a full swing. It's a deliberate choice: the best technical fabric available, finished with our own details.

    On polos, pullovers, and outerwear, the crest is embroidered directly into the fabric — it costs more and lasts longer, and we think it's worth it. On our heavyweight cotton tees and hoodies, the full crest goes on as a bold print, the way a classic graphic should.

The Story Behind the Name

Nine fathom deep.

In 1798, Samuel Taylor Coleridge published The Rime of the Ancient Mariner — the story of a ship driven into the ice at the bottom of the world. Out of the fog came an albatross. The crew fed it and hailed it as a good omen, and the omen held: the ice split, a fair wind rose, and the bird followed the ship like a guardian.

Then the mariner shot it — for no reason at all. The wind died, the ship stalled, and his shipmates hung the dead bird around his neck. Every “albatross around your neck” since traces back to that poem. But the bird had a protector: a spirit from the land of mist and snow, gliding beneath the keel nine fathom deep. The spirit loved the bird, made the mariner answer for it, and in time drove the ship home.

That spirit is where our name comes from. Golfers gave the albatross's name to the rarest shot in the game; we took the name of the one who kept watch over the bird. It's the promise sewn into everything we make: honor the bird.

The Albatross Story

An albatross is three under par on a single hole — finishing in two strokes a hole designed to take five, or making a hole-in-one on a par four. It is the rarest shot in golf, rarer than a hole-in-one, and most golfers play their entire lives without ever seeing one. That is the standard we build for.

We founded Nine Fathom in 2024 to make golf clothing worthy of that standard. Classic on the outside, engineered underneath: proven performance fabric from adidas and Champion, a crest done properly for each piece — embroidered on our performance wear, boldly printed on our heavyweight cotton — and a restrained palette of charcoal, navy, heather grey, and cream that works anywhere.
